The gross wall area is calculated from wall length, wall height and the number of identical walls.
The combined area of doors, windows and other openings is subtracted to determine the net siding area.
Your waste percentage is applied to the net siding area to estimate the total area that should be covered by purchased material.
The required area is divided by the usable coverage of one siding panel or piece, then rounded upward to a whole-piece quantity.
If you enter a price per siding piece, the final quantity is multiplied by that price to estimate material cost.
This calculator estimates siding material only and does not include trims, channels, fasteners, labour or structural requirements.

How to Calculate Siding for Walls
Estimate siding from wall dimensions, openings, usable coverage per piece and waste allowance before ordering material.
Calculate the Net Siding Area
First calculate the area of one wall and multiply it by the number of identical walls. Then subtract the combined area of openings.
Gross Wall Area = Wall Length × Wall Height × Wall Count
Net Siding Area = Gross Wall Area − Openings Area
Add a Siding Waste Allowance
Extra material helps account for cuts, damaged pieces and layout adjustments. The calculator applies your selected waste percentage to the net siding area.
Required Area = Net Siding Area × (1 + Waste % ÷ 100)
Convert Required Area Into Siding Pieces
Use the actual usable coverage supplied by one siding panel or piece. The required siding area is divided by that coverage and rounded upward to a whole-piece quantity.
Base Quantity = Required Area ÷ Coverage per Piece
Estimate Siding Material Cost
If a price per siding piece is entered, the calculator multiplies the final whole-piece quantity by that price.
Estimated Cost = Final Quantity × Price per Piece
Trim, starter strips, channels, fasteners, labour and other project costs are not automatically included.
