How Paint Ratios Scale Into Exact Batch Quantities

Use component ratios to preserve proportions while calculating percentages and exact quantities for a requested batch size.

01

What the Ratio Calculator Does

Enter between 2 and 12 named components with their ratio values. The calculator normalizes those ratios and scales them to your requested batch size.

Ratio Total = Sum of All Component Ratios
02

Ratios Do Not Need to Total 100

A ratio describes relative proportions. Equivalent ratios therefore produce the same normalized percentages and final batch quantities.

4 : 2 : 1 = 8 : 4 : 2
03

Convert Each Ratio to a Percentage

Each component percentage is determined by its share of the total ratio.

Component % = Component Ratio ÷ Ratio Total × 100
04

Scale the Ratio to Your Target Batch

After normalization, each component receives its proportional share of the requested total batch.

Component Amount = Component Ratio ÷ Ratio Total × Target Batch
05

Keep One Consistent Unit

Select µL, ml, L, g, or kg for the batch and keep the final quantities in that same unit. The calculator performs proportional arithmetic rather than mass-to-volume conversion.

Final Component Amounts = Selected Batch Unit
06

Calculated Ratios Are Mathematical

The result preserves the entered proportions and reports normalized percentages and quantities. It does not predict the physical color or performance of mixed paint.

Calculated Total = Requested Batch
Practical rule: preserve the component ratio, use one consistent unit, and verify the formula before mixing.
