COUNTERTOP MATERIAL PLANNING GUIDE
The Gallop Countertop Calculator estimates countertop area, sink or cooktop cutouts, waste allowance, slab or material piece quantity and optional material cost. Enter the finished dimensions of one countertop section, the number of identical sections and the usable coverage supplied by each slab or piece.
The calculator determines the area of one rectangular countertop section and multiplies it by the number of identical sections. This gives the gross countertop area.
Sink, cooktop and other entered cutout areas are then subtracted. Waste is added to the remaining net area before the calculator determines the whole number of slabs or material pieces required.
The calculator follows these actual formulas:
Consider one countertop section measuring 3 m long and 0.6 m deep.
If the combined sink and cooktop cutout area is 0.30 m²:
Adding 10% waste gives:
If each slab or piece provides 0.50 m² of usable coverage, the base quantity is 3 pieces and the final quantity after waste is 4 pieces.
The calculator subtracts the combined cutout area before applying waste. The entered cutout area must therefore be smaller than the gross countertop area.
Waste can account for cutting, breakage, matching and other material losses. The calculator accepts a waste allowance from 0% to 50%, then rounds the resulting material quantity upward to a complete slab or piece.
Enter an optional price per slab or material piece to estimate the material purchase cost. The calculator uses the final whole-piece quantity after the waste allowance.

Measure finished countertop length and depth carefully. When several sections are entered together, they should have identical dimensions because the calculator multiplies one section area by the section quantity.
Confirm usable slab dimensions, seams, pattern matching, edge profiles, backsplashes, sink and cooktop openings, cutting orientation and fabrication requirements with the supplier or fabricator before placing a final order.
